【Creeping Thyme】 Perennial

? Thyme is an herb in the mint family.
It originates from Europe, North Africa, and Asia.
The scientific name serpyllum means to grow creeping along the ground, and this variety grows by creeping.

? Perfect for ground cover and mixed plantings,
it blooms with small pink flowers all over.
It's also popular for weed control.
Approximately 5-9 plants per square meter are recommended. As it spreads, you can cut it as needed.
(See the last photo for its appearance 6 months after sowing in autumn. It grows rapidly when the temperature rises.)

? It is quite cold-hardy, so in regions south of the Kanto area, little to no frost protection is needed. In warmer climates, it can overwinter without special protection.

? In snowy regions, the above-ground parts may die back, but the roots remain alive and will sprout again in spring. In colder regions, protect the roots from frost and cold winds by keeping them in a sheltered location like under eaves or indoors.

? Cooking ?
? Its refreshing aroma eliminates the gamey smell of meat and fish. It retains its flavor even when simmered for a long time. Also great for herbal tea.

? Potpourri, Sachets ?
? Dried thyme, in sufficient quantities, can be enjoyed for its pleasant fragrance as is.
It can be dried for potpourri or placed in a breathable bag to create sachets (scented bags).

? Herbal Bath, Aromatherapy ?
? It grows very vigorously, allowing for frequent harvests. When the stems and leaves become too dense, you can cut them back and use them for an herbal bath.

① Harvest → Cut the stems with scissors. (Adjust the amount to your preference.)
② Bundle → Tie them together with a rubber band or string.
③ Wash → Lightly rinse with water to remove any soil, dust, or insects.
④ Add to Tub → Place in the bathtub before filling it with hot water.
⑤ Fill the tub with hot water, and it's ready.

? Sowing: April-May, September
? Flowering: April-June
? Height: Approx. 5-10 cm
