10 seeds of South American chili pepper Mirassol (Chile Guajillo)

Seeds harvested in September 2025, grown organically without pesticides, and self-collected.

A chili pepper with very little heat, commonly used in Peruvian and Mexican dishes like tacos and salsa sauce.
It pairs perfectly with red tomatoes.

Dried Mirassol is apparently called Chile Guajillo.

Cultivation Impressions:

Both the fruit and the plant are on the larger side.

The heat and flavor of the fruit are similar to sweet peppers and shishito peppers.
Green chilies were also delicious when simmered in Japanese dishes like nimono.
The heat of the fruit is generally quite mild, but some very hot fruits did occur.
It does not have a habanero-like aroma.

As I am not familiar with South American cuisine, I mainly dry them and use them as a powder, similar to paprika powder or Kashmiri chili. I didn't feel any heat, but it made dishes look deep red and spicy.
I lightly toast them to bring out the aroma before powdering them.

Alternatively, you can rehydrate the dried chilies with water, then blend them with sautéed tomatoes, garlic, and finely chopped onions to make a salsa sauce, like those served with tacos in Mexico.

My harvest yield was higher than bell peppers.
