Overview

The S-3-way is a 1U rack-size analog electronic crossover that can be switched between 2-way/3-way stereo and 4-way (or 4-Way Low) mono modes. It is equipped with essential management functions for practical use, including Linkwitz-Riley 24dB/Oct filters, delay up to 2ms (low-range time alignment), CD horn EQ, peak limiter, and phase inversion/mute for each band.

Main Features and Characteristics

Mode Switching: Select from Stereo 2-Way / Stereo 3-Way / Mono 4-Way / Mono 4-Way Low using the front mode switch. Panel indicators show the relevant controls according to the mode.

Crossover: Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB/Oct (good phase characteristics, flat when combined). The frequency range can be expanded with the x10 range switch (e.g., 35–800Hz → 350Hz–8kHz). A dedicated range is also available for 4-Way Low.

Delay: Allows for time alignment of stacked speakers with a maximum delay of approximately 2ms (in the low-range).

CD Horn EQ: Equipped with Constant Directivity EQ that corrects frequencies above 3.5kHz (compensates for high-frequency roll-off of horns).

Peak Limiter: Built-in limiter effective for all bands with independent threshold and peak LEDs. Effective for speaker protection.

High-Pass (Subsonic) Filter: While there are variations in notation depending on the version, both a specification notation of 15Hz/18dB (3rd order) and a functional description of 25Hz/12dB (Butterworth) can be found in the manual (possible differences due to printing or revisions).

Each Band Control: Low/Mid/High are each equipped with ±6dB gain, mute, and phase inversion (180°). Input gain is ±12dB with a 4-segment LED input meter and peak display.
